What a thoroughly basic interpretation of the story. Tell me, if I felt ashamed of what happened here, why would I be willing to publish this story with my name attached to it? I find it more likely that it’s your own shame making you feel angry when you read my story. Maybe something about me reminds me of yourself. you don’t have to feel ashamed…you didn’t choose to be brought up in a racist society. But you and I do have a responsibility to get free from it.
