From reading your profile description, Steve, it seems like the purity/neighbor-focused dynamic is at the center of your worldview. I can definitely respect that, especially since I also reject the purity approach and agree that our understanding of who is around us is crucial.

But it seems like you’re finding what you want to find in my piece. The last section of my essay is all about how purity is impossible and that I have to commit to a practice of constant undoing the oppressive mindsets built into me. How do you read that and still claim that this piece is purity-focused?
