Allison, I agree with you that Black people should not have to be defined in relation to White people, AND I think there is a real danger with your proposed response in that it does not name and locate the origin of the problem of anti-Black racism within Whiteness and White communities. Police brutality against Black people happens because of White supremacy, and so I am cautious about any analysis of the problem that does not directly name and implicate Whiteness.
